What are bishop birds famous for ?
Bishop birds make up a group of birds within a family of WEAVERBIRDS. They are small birds, about 13 cm long, and are found in tropical and sub-tropical regions of Africa, often in open grassland or clearings in forests. These birds are tree-dwellers with bright yellow or red plumage. They make tough bell-shaped nests from sharp twigs, thorns, grasses and other material, weaving the pieces together with their bills in the way that people weave rugs ad thick cloth.
Bishop birds are renowned for their polygamy, unusual among birds, each male mating with up to 6 females.
The male tries to attract a female to mate. The nest is high in tree well out of reach of animals. At times they are built on branches over hanging water, to provide security for the eggs and young.

Avocets

Habitat : fresh, blackish or salt waters.
Diet : crustaceans, worms, other invertebrates, small vertebrates.
Breeding : 2-5 (usually 4) black or brown speckled buff or greenish
                eggs : 22-28 days incubation.
Size : length 30-40 cm; weight 140-435 g. Females  usually slightly smaller.
Plumage : highly contrasting black and white patterns.

Name the various species of avocet ?

Avocets are wading birds which can be identified by their long, upward-curving beaks. They are handsome birds, with contrasting plumage of black and white. They have long blue-grey legs and a long drak upturned bill.
Avocets truly are waders, feeding in relatively deep water. In deep water they may reach the bottom by upending themselves like ducks. Also as in ducks, their feet are webbed.
Four species of avocet are found in temperate and tropical regions around the world.
1- Eurasian species
2- American species
3- Australasian species
4- Andean species
Most avocets nest in colonies, because of their conspicuous plumage.

Albatross

Habitat : open sea.
Diet : fish, squid, crustaceans.Breeding : 1 white egg; 65-79 days incubation.
Size : smallest (mollymawks) : length from 68 cm, wingspan 1.8 m;
largest (great albatrosses); length up to 135 cm, wingspan 3.5 m.
Plumage : varies from white with dark wing tips to all over dark, sooty brown.

Why albatross were known as mollymawks by the sailors ?
albatrosses are among the most skilled gliders in the bird world. They have powerful hooked bills, stout bodies and long slender wings.
Most albatrosses are tame, allowing people to approach and even stroke them.. Because of this the birds were called mollymawks ("stupid gulls") by the sailors. This name is now often used for some of the smaller species such as the Black-footed albatross, which has a wingspan of only about 1,2 m.
All albatrosses have a strong bill hooked at the end. Like shear waters and petrels, they have tubed nostrils, one each side of the bill. Also, they produce large amounts of oil in their gut.
Albatross are among the longest-living birds. They do not breed until they are 7 years old.

Accentor

What is the difference between an accentor and a sparrow ?

Accentors are small, sparrow-like birds found throughout Europe and Asia. Unlike SPARROWS, they have slender, finely pointed bills and they are, infarct, more closely related to THRUSHES or WARBLERS.

Accentors usually live in mountainous regions, often well above the tree line. Most accentors breed at lower levels, however, in scrub-type vegetation. The dunnock that is found in Europe, is particularly common in woods, hedgerows and gardens. In summers, accentors feed on insects; in winter, they live almost entirely on seeds and berries.
